Benoit Sjöholm

Benoit Sjöholm was born in 1980 and lives near Paris.

During his childhood, he was particularly inspired by the work of Judith Reigl and Simon Hantaï, both friends of his maternal grandparents.

Benoît studied graphic design and worked for 15 years as a freelance art director. Typography and graphic signs were at the heart of the artist's preoccupations from an early age.

So it's only natural that Benoit Sjöholm now devotes his art to writing and its evocation.

His approach is based on gesture, governed by a given rhythm, revealing a raw, abstract style. Dictated by a single energy, it bears witness to a moment of creative life, a unique moment. Like a seismograph, his painting is a record, a trace of life in perpetual evolution. In fact, it's a quest for spontaneity within an imposed framework.

Like signatures, the lines of writing fill the support, which becomes an almost organic material.
