Marc Tanguy was born in 1959 in Paris, where he continues to live and work. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, where he had painters such as Zao Wou-Ki among his teachers. Today, Marc Tanguy also teaches at this school.
The artist describes himself as a landscape painter: “Indeed, I experience the landscape as an immersion, a meditation. Through painting, I translate feelings, visions, and sensations.”
His works leave room for the viewer’s imagination. He immerses himself in daring chromatic combinations, with gestures that appear both spontaneous and highly refined. The spectator is continually struck by the intensity of the colors, the harmonies they create, and the depth of the pictorial space.
Marc Tanguy is a multidisciplinary painter. He alternates between the delicate subtlety of watercolor and energetic large-scale canvases. These larger works have a hypnotic effect, inviting the viewer to seek indistinct forms within an innovative, abstract explosion of colors. His colors are both dynamic and structured. His most recent works are painted on bleached linen canvases using pure pigments.
Marc Tanguy’s work is held in numerous private collections worldwide and is exhibited in several galleries, notably in Paris and London.
