Ora Mitja

Ora Mitja is a Paris-based artist, draughtswoman, and printmaker.

After studying design at Central Saint Martins in London, she worked in a design agency while continuing her drawing practice. She found a connection between the two disciplines that allowed both activities to evolve and enrich one another.

Drawing has always been an integral part of Ora Mitja’s personality and forms the foundation of her work. Her inspirations are varied, ranging from illustrators such as Moëbius to classical painters like Delacroix.

Ora Mitja is also specialized in printmaking. For her, this creative process is a continuation of drawing, allowing her to oscillate between the softness of a sketch and the strength of etched lines. The exploration of color in printmaking is equally central to her work. She experiments with shades such as bladder green, Prussian blue, and the intensity of various blacks. As is often the case in printmaking, balance is key for the artist, between empty and filled spaces, and between the softness of lines and the rigidity of geometric forms.

Her creative process is slow and embraces accident or error. As the artist explains: “I try many things, and sometimes I stumble upon a perfect line, by chance or by magic—an accident occurs and creates something, or I see a character emerge that amuses me. What I enjoy most are these unique moments and their one-of-a-kind results, impossible to reproduce.”

Her inspirations also draw from nature and plant life, where imperfection and randomness are an inherent part of the landscape.
