J’étais comme un verre vide

Velvet painting diptych
70 × 140 cm
Unique, signed artwork

Pauline Furman’s works use velvet as a pictorial medium, giving rise to surreal and fluid paintings where light constantly transforms the forms. Through a practice close to tapestry and textile marquetry, she creates mysterious and vibrant images that oscillate between softness, strangeness, and visual poetry.

Pauline Furman
Pauline Furman

Self-taught, Pauline Furman creates surreal and mysterious paintings, emerging from worlds full of light yet shadowed, strange yet joyful, designed to question others while exploring herself.

At the heart of her approach is textile material, with velvet as her palette. It was the memory of her mother creating fabric artworks during her childhood that led her to this technique, which is close to tapestry and marquetry, using velvet as a brush.

This atypical technique allows her to bring images to life, hour by hour, lighting by lighting, creating ever-shifting, evolving visuals.

Custom design and décor: an exploration of velvet in otherworldly realms.
