Lise Gonthier

Lise Gonthier first pursued a classical training in painting and drawing at the Beaux-Arts. She then naturally turned to glass art.

The creation of her “paintings” is carried out in three stages: first, the production of blown elements using the fusing technique (a process of melting pieces together); second, the cold-working of elements by cutting; and finally, the assembly of the pieces to be fused.

With this technique, she can compose unique works “playing with the composition of lines, structure, and graphics.”

Glass therefore requires true technical mastery. Yet creativity and poetry emerge from her works. She transports the viewer to a dreamlike and imaginative world, where each piece is delicate and distinct. The glass allows the artist to create “paintings of light,” in the words of M. Rothko. These works are bathed in transparency and full of volume, giving them an undeniable presence.
