Jean-Marie Tarance develops a refined body of work where artisanal craftsmanship meets Art Deco influences and Asian inspiration. Through mother-of-pearl, metal leaf and pigments, he creates sensitive pieces that convey atmospheres, travels and emotions. For him, “art and life are one and the same,” a vision that permeates each of his creations.

Jean-Marie Tarance

Jean-Marie Tarance was born in Southwest France in 1969.

Thanks to his training and professional experience, his work reflects exceptional craftsmanship.

He uses a wide variety of mediums, including mother-of-pearl, a truly difficult material to master, as well as silver leaf, aluminum, paint, pencils, pastels, inks, and acrylics.

His works on paper are mainly inspired by the 1930s (particularly Art Deco), but also by his appreciation for Asian art, his personal experiences, and his many travels over the years.

Through his works, Jean-Marie Tarance conveys an atmosphere he has felt or an emotion he has experienced. For him, “art and life are one,” and it is through life that art comes to fruition. He also paints on canvas. His latest series, his most significant to date, currently composed of 70 canvases, is titled “The Awakening,” evoking the Buddha’s awakening. This series began when he left Paris for Southwest France in 2014. It represents, through art, a return to his roots.
