Louise Laffaille

Louise Laffaille is a Franco-Swiss artist.

Influenced by William Turner, the painter of light, Louise Laffaille seeks through her landscapes at the borders of abstraction to capture moments of contemplation in the face of nature’s mysteries and beauty, with a particular fascination for water and light.

After a classical training at several art schools in Lausanne, Switzerland, she moved to the United States to refine her technique and explore new horizons. In New York, she met Chinese painter Paul Ching Bor, who became her mentor for several years. Beyond the technical instruction he provided, he introduced her to the Chinese pictorial tradition, emphasizing the importance of water and mountains, and the balance between painted and unpainted areas, allowing light to emerge.

Since then, Louise Laffaille’s painting has served as a bridge between two aesthetic heritages: Chinese, through pictorial influence, and Western, particularly through the landscapes she interprets. Her influences reflect this: Zao Wou-Ki (1920–2013), for his work with light and contrast, and the mastery of materials seen in Fabienne Verdier (born 1962).
