Manuela Paul-Cavallier

Trained as an art craftswoman, Manuela Paul-Cavallier's career path has opened up to artistic creation, transforming the ancestral skills of the craftsman into abstract expressions based on raw pigments and gold leaf.

Diplomée en 1993 de l’université de Florence, en arts appliqués, puis en 1999, d’un CAP de l’Académie de Paris, en dorure, Manuela Paul-Cavallier débute sa vie professionnelle en tant restauratrice, puis créatrice d’or…

In 2008, she was accredited by the National Museums for wood gilding (IFROA). In 2011, she was selected to create the showcases for the French Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the major French workshops. She also exhibits off-site, under the patronage of Prince Albert of Monaco.

This atypical career path as a wood gilder led Manuela Paul-Cavallier to deepen her knowledge of Italian, Japanese and French gilding techniques. Through a deliberate choice of craftsmanship and research into ancestral know-how, she has practiced the dialogue of these materials as a gilding restorer and then designer.

In 2014, Manuela Paul-Cavallier turned her attention to abstract pictorial art. She was selected by the French Institute in Japan for a residency on the subject of "the aesthetics of subtraction" (Villa Kujoyama).

In the same year, Manuela Paul-Cavallier began her first solo exhibitions (Galerie TSL, Paris 75007 and Galerie Le Préau6, Paris 75007).

In the years that followed, the artist concentrated his pictorial work on abstract art, and on combining the French heritage of gold, a luxurious and sought-after material, with a spontaneous gesture, a means of expressing a particular vision of art. The material becomes an invisible veil, and the gesture seeks to make contact with the viewer, through vibrations and a search for emotion and purity. Manuela Paul-Cavallier evolves through a constant dialogue between herself and those who see her work.
