Born in London in 1971.
Metallochromy, the ability of steel to naturally react to certain elements such as water and fire, combined with various techniques, brings a unique color, texture, and surface to the material.
For the artist, iron is originally contained in the earth as a mineral. It is through fire and human labor that iron becomes usable.
Being part of the process of transforming the material, while maintaining a connection to its mineral origin, is essential to him. José Aguirre’s work gives a new “earthly” life to this material, now integrated into space, but also connected to the environment, as if to recall its previous existence.
The metallic material reveals a world with terrestrial and cosmic resonances. Far from the original meanings of the first vertical volumes erected by humans (menhirs, obelisks, and other totems), his “modern” sculptures inherit all these myths and dreams.
José Aguirre’s creations do not impose any particular direction; to preserve the magic, an object is never simply itself. It is a sign of something else; it is up to the viewer, according to their sensitivity, to give the object a reality and to embark on their own journey.
