René Galassi

René Galassi was born in 1964 and began his artistic journey as a self-taught artist.

Coming from a family of cabinetmakers, he inherited a deep appreciation for well-crafted manual work and the beauty it produces. Over time, he realized that only an activity within the realm of art could truly satisfy him.

Henri Baviera introduced him to the arts and had him work alongside him as an intaglio press operator. In 1999, Galassi took engraving classes, absorbed the influences of the artists he encountered, and began creating his own works under the guidance of his mentor and friend. Their meeting proved decisive: as friends, the two artists collaborated closely. Galassi draws inspiration from the streets of Old Nice. His paintings incorporate diverse materials such as lime, paper, and cardboard. To the mineral quality of his works, he often adds vegetal elements, creating a connection between the labyrinth of stones and rooftops of Nice and his intimate perception of nature.
