• Hello Candice, how did you start your career as an artist?

A lifelong actress, I took up painting in 2010 in search of a new "playground". Driven by a constant need to create, painting and its blank page opened up infinite possibilities for me to express myself. I organized my first solo show in 2016, encouraged by the enthusiasm of my friends. The show went really well, and that's when I realized that I wanted to/could go further.

  • Can you tell us about your current projects?

I'm currently working on a series that combines earthy vegetation with gold leaf, which counterbalances the minerality by adding a touch of spirituality and light. It's a link between the world above and the world below, and I want to go ever further towards what drives me intimately. I haven't found my "essence" yet. I'm in a slow process. I want to take my time and explore as many things as possible before becoming "obsessive" about a subject.

  • What inspires your compositions?

I observe nature a lot. I take a lot of photos. The clouds are always asking me questions. My head is often in the air. I'm quite sensitive to accidents (cracks in a wall, paint oxidizing, aged wood); all the "irruptions of reality" that we come across on a daily basis in the street and elsewhere.

Blue and gold are recurrent in my work. But I like to break free. I think colors have a huge influence on our mood! You can't put something in your living room that makes you neurasthenic! They contribute to our inner dynamic. I find it hard to choose a medium. I use acrylics, oils and watercolors. If I had to choose, I'd keep oil for the depth and nuance it allows. But my impatience always brings me back to acrylic! I'm looking for an overall balance in the composition (matter, color, light), but it always involves accidents that I deliberately provoke and then build on.
